The “Ante Raić” Award was established in 2014 in memory of Ante Raić, a first‑generation student at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo.

Ante (Marijan) Raić was born in Sarajevo on June 3, 1968, where he completed primary school and the Secondary Medical School. During the war, alongside his studies in psychology, he was also a student at the Faculty of Criminal Justice, Criminology and Security Studies in Sarajevo. His fellow students and teachers remember him as an exceptionally warm and kind person, always ready to help others.

At the beginning of the war, in 1992, he joined the Territorial Defense, and later the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1993, he joined the special police unit “Bosna,” where he was awarded the rank of sergeant. According to his comrades, Ante Raić was an example of a brave, dignified, and proud Bosnian “knight.”

Tragically, near the very end of the war in 1995, Ante Raić lost his life defending his city. He was posthumously awarded the Golden Police Star.
